Roller Coaster

31 12 2006

Time for a game that sticks out like a sore thumb among my reviews.

This game actually just a graphically updated version of Sim Theme Park for the computer. I got this game at the time because I was into controlling everything about that time (Sim City, The Sims). The game is pretty sad for theme park games especially compared to some of the Tycoon games that are out now like Zoo Tycoon. I’m not saying the Tycoon games are great; I’m just saying this game is bad. The main problem is the limit on the amount of things you can build so you can’t fill you park with Port-A-Jons. There’s a lot of buildings and attraction, but they are spread out between 4 worlds, which is utterly stupid. If they would’ve put all the buildings in one world and let you choose between them, this would be a decent game that (Might) last more than a week for the average gamer.

The graphics aren’t very good. I’ve seen N64 games with better graphics than this.

The music is probably the best part of the game because it’s always playing, but it’s never annoying. The sound is annoying also since all the people do is a bunch of random grunts here and there like a bunch of cavemen.

Overall, this is NOT a game to actually go out and search from store to store looking for.

SSX 3

31 12 2006

Time for some more SSX.

This SSX is probably the best of them all with the perfect combination of online and a great single player mode. This one also features the best of the character customization, even though SSX: On Tour features custom characters; there’s just not enough customization to compete with SSX 3. In this game free ride was introduced, which gives the single player mode much more fun. The online mode is pretty much linear except the fact that you can bring your character from single player on here. Online features just the tracks and no crazy free ride, which would be hard with such a big mountain.

The graphics are spot on and they’re better than the rest of the SSX games.

The music features several big artists here and there and the background is realistic when there’s no music. The sound is pretty good, because what’s better than the sound of snow crunching beneath your feet? The voices are all unique, but nothing special.

If you want an SSX game, get this one, because it’s the best of them all by far.

Star Wars: Super Bombad Racing

30 12 2006

Wow, you guys are being spoiled today.

Most people will see the name and be like “What? Bombad? What’s a Bombad?”. Well, I don’t know what a Bombad is, but I do know this game is definitely something you can’t find very easily. Actually to tell the truth, I’ve never seen this game for sale ANYWHERE except for Ebay and it’s rare to find there. Don’t EVEN ask for the storyline, because there is none like normal. The tracks are very basic and the characters are from Star Wars: Episode 1 (wow, that’s a long time ago). The power-ups are pretty much the norm for kiddy racing games. But, the game finds it only decent point in the arena battles, which are fairly fun even for one player.

The graphics are below average, but what did you expect from the flurry of Star Wars spin-offs after the movie release.

The music and sound are also below average.

The only good point is the arena battles, other than that it is pretty pathetic and not worth your time and money to find.

RC Revenge Pro

30 12 2006

OMG, two for one day!

I just remembered I had this game earlier…(smacks head). This game is really good for not being a big time game, even though it was covered up by heavy hitters like NFS:HP2. There’s no storyline which is normal for a kiddy racing game, kinda like Mario Kart has no storyline. There are a TON of tracks and cars to pick from and there’s a track editor so you’ll never run out of tracks. Also, for all those people who like to blow the stuffing out of each other there are a lot of power-ups.

The graphics are ehh… decent, but I wouldn’t compare it to anything “good”.

The music is annoying to a point and the power-up sounds are there I guess.

The multiplayer is the reason to buy this game; you can race the same track with someone and you’ll rarely get bored, depending on the track.

This game is not as good as the other racing games that came out at the time ,but it’s AWESOME multiplayer makes up for that.

Ratchet and Clank

30 12 2006

Sorry about not reviewing anything lately ;I was just taking a little time to PWN some n00bs.

Time for one of my personal favorites ,Ratchet and Clank. I found out about this game while playing it at a friend’s house and I was like “Hmm… this looks pretty cool…” ;so I went out and bought the game (for a really cheap price). The storyline was somewhat different, at least I’ve never seen a storyline like this before; A meteor comes crashing down you go to investigate it, it turns out that the meteor was a little robot (Clank), then stuff happens.

The graphics are still to this day very good; it makes Animal Crossing (came out 3 years later) look like a SNES game. The explosions are really cool looking ,which is always nice.

The music is some of the best on the PS2 that I know of and the sounds are correct in every aspect and every enemy has it’s own distinct call or battle cry. And once again the explosions sound really good.

Overall, this is a MUST have for the PS2, unless you are a RPG freak.

Merry Christmas!

25 12 2006

Merry Christmas everyone and hope you have a good holiday and let that holiday be filled with n00bs waiting to be owned. Anyways, I’m probably not going to write reviews for the next few days because I seriously need a break ,but I should be back to flaking some games soon.

In other news I got a Nintendo DS so in a few weeks I should have some reviews up on that system. WOOTAMITSU!

Metal Gear Solid 3 :Subsistence

24 12 2006

Time for another sequel… (Is it just me or does it seem all I have are sequels and spin-offs?)

This game takes place as the first game in the entire Metal Gear series. Also, it contains the games MGS3:Snake eater ,MG1, MG2:SS, Snake vs. Monkey, Duel, and an online mode. The game brings in something unique for the MGS series by bringing in the 3rd-person view instead of the one-angle camera. And it also brings in an Metal Gear Online, which was mentioned above ,and I will go into further detail later.

This story starts off that you have to go rescue a scientist from Cold War Russia ,but you’ll find that it quickly escalates into something much bigger.

The graphics are beautiful ;they are some of the best graphics I’ve seen (before the next-gen consoles) on an non-RPG game.

The music only seems to pop up during boss battles ,but most of the time you just have the sound of the jungle surrounding you at all times ,and that’s a good thing because with no music you can here EVERYTHING that moves ,but so can your enemies.

the online mode is awesome. To tell the truth it’s probably one of the best online game on the PS2. Yes, there are people on there who are nearly invincible ,but it’s still fun to play because what’s funner than sneaking up on somebody and sticking an knife in their back?

This is a GREAT game and definitely something to look into getting soon ,but don’t get it mixed up with MGS3 :Snake Eater.

Ratchet and Clank :Up Your Arsenal

23 12 2006

Time for some more Ratchet and Clank reviews.

Ratchet and Clank hasn’t changed that much overall in gameplay through 4 games ,but this one is definitely is the best of the four. The story is nice and simple; Dr. Nefarious attacks and you have to go look for the hero who originally beat him ;and that’s how you start.

The graphics are beautiful even compared to games being released in the past few months and this game is nearly 2 years old . The weapons are really cool and they make you want to up your arsenal just to see all the neat designs and explosions. The characters are all unique and the enemies are either completely unique or making fun of another video game character.

The music is perfect ,because you can play the game forever and the music can never get old. The sound effects are somewhat accurate ,but you’re to busy hearing the gigantic explosions to hear how the weapons sound.

The online mode was added in this game and is way better than Ratchet :D eadlocked. With about 15 maps and four game modes , the online always stays fresh. One note to self is that I seems most people over the age of 30 get really addicted to the game really fast ,so keep it away from your grampa.

This is a great game and DEFINITELY  something to pick up ,even if you don’t have an online connection for you PS2.

Darius Twin

22 12 2006

Time to go retro.

Darius Twin is probably one of my most favorite side-scrolling space shooter that I’ve ever played and I wish they would bring it out for download on the Wii. The only main gameplay issue is that the game is too short ,but it is really fun and it has 2-P ability.

The storyline is all on the intro of the game ;it’s nothing much some space force invades your planet ,you and some other ship go flying away to hide ,you decide to go back and fight ,yadda yadda yadda.

The graphics are well…ummm…classical gaming style? (lol)

The sound is decent ,nothing great ,but the music is awesome I’ve had some of those songs in my head for years.

A good game to pick up used for about 3 dollars (which is the average price).
