Jak and Daxter: the Precursor Legacy

26 11 2006

What came first the Daxter or the Clank? Well, I can’t remember off hand but who cares; they’re both great games! But today we shall talk about Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy.

This game takes place before the events of Jak2, 3, and X (which I’ve also reviewed) ,unless you’ve played the later game then you’ll say it comes after the rest.

For when this game was released the graphics were awesome; compared even to the big RPGs of that year, so I’ll give Naughty Dog their props there.

Then there’s the sound and music which is average ,sadly enough, But at least it makes up for it in the completely unique charaters, enemies, and worlds.

The gameplay itself is very well though out especially since you’ll have to use every single move at least once (or you could just be obsessed with rolling around like me). The bosses and enemies will make you change your attacking methods every time or you’ll uhhh…. die. And with all the precursor orbs and power cells laying about you’ll definently be coming back to each section several times if you want to complete the game 100%.

The storyline builds itself up instead of throwing you into a death roll from point A to point B like Jak 2. The chracters are worth paying attention too but you can pretty much skip every cut scene and still beat the game with no knowledge of the plot (like FPSs).

But the game itself is pretty good except for a few annoying glitches here and there but definently the best of it’s series.

By the way I beat the game 100% in less than 4 hours once on a speed run!

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

20 11 2006

Metal Gear has been around since like NES days so the other day I thought I would pick up Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty just to see how good it was.

The game pretty much throws you right into the action after the seemingly endless cinematics/radio conversations.

It took me about 15 seconds to figure out how to fire the weapon, do most of the moves, and use stealth to defeat my enemies, which is always nice.

And with two storylines and 5 difficulty levels it will definitely keep you busy for a while, unless you are like me and get to a point where all you want to do is speed runs which can always be fun.

The graphics are great for the time area it was released but MG has always been cutting edge from what I’ve seen especially with MGS4 coming out soon for the PS3.

The sound is accurate and not overpowering ,but the music can drive you crazy if you’re hanging around in a cardboard box or gym locker waiting for the alert levels to go down, which you’ll be doing alot of if you’ve never played a MGS game before.

The storyline ,which picks up right after MGS1 for the PS, is very ellaborate and well-thought-out ,making you actually want to watch the endless cinematics/radio conversation all the way to the end, and you better unless you want to be lost in the storyline.

The gameplay itself is very entertaining whether it’s making a guard shake what his mom gave him at a hold-up or hanging from a ledge waiting to ambush someone it will give you something new to do everytime.

This is overall a great game because it incorporates characteristics from FPSs and Platformers in a unique way that makes you want to play more so it’s a really good buy considering you can get it for around seven dollars used at an EB games or Gamestop.

And remember don’t be afraid to comment on my work.
